April 11 Meeting Re-cap

Did you miss Sunday's meeting? It was great!

Our speaker was Cary L. Hall of the Clayton Library Center for Genealogical Research. She spoke about organizing genealogy files and shared examples from her own research. Cary answered the "why when and how" of organization and provided a great presentation. As a bonus, she also answered audience questions about the Clayton library and shared updates about the collection. We even got a handout that includes a handy bibliography of books on the subject of organization.

Thanks to Cary for a great session and to those AKGS members who made it happen.

Our next meeting is May 16. This is the last meeting before our summer break. See you there!

Clayton Library Hours Reduced

Hours at the Clayton Library Center for Genealogical Research have been reduced. The new schedule is effective April 17, 2010:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 10-6
Wednesday 10 -8
Saturday 10 - 5
Friday and Sunday CLOSED

From the Clayton Library Friends email:

Please take a moment to send comments regarding the reduction of access hours to the Clayton Library's unique, reference, non-circulating collection to:   Ms. Meller Langford, Houston Public Library, Deputy Director of Public Services, 500 McKinney, Houston, TX 77002.  Comments should also be made to your individual City Councilperson in support of Clayton Library and the fact that Clayton Library is not like other regional and neighborhood libraries where books/records can be checked out for use at home.  Limiting the hours the Clayton Library is open unduly restricts records and research access. Comment forms may also be obtained at the library for your convenience.

Online comments may be made at:
http//www2.houstonlibrary.org/services/comments.html.

Please note that Kingwood and Atascocita branches are part of the Harris County Public Library System, and are not subject to a reduction in hours at this time.
